The Story of our Over Water Night Show "Dances of Legends"

Tongaiti and his wife Ari were explorers from Iwa (Rapa Nui Islands) who heard from other people on his land about some beautiful “floating islands” out in the Pacific Ocean, and decided to make a big Vaka (canoe) and go in search of these islands.

Apart from his wife and beautiful daughter, they voyaged with other curious inhabitants from Iwa in hope to discover the islands.  Weeks and weeks passed out at sea when suddenly someone yelled as he saw what looked to be a coconut floating in the water.  As they came closer to the floating coconut it seemed to grow and grow until they realized it was instead an island, one of the “floating islands”…

The natives from this floating island were very hostile and unfriendly and kept throwing spears and yelling for Tongaiti and his people to move away from their land.  Days passed with the people from Iwa still not allowed off the vaka.  The chief of the island himself condemned them from ever stepping foot on his land when suddenly a beautiful maiden appeared at the front of the Vaka and started dancing a solo to the chief.

Spellbound and captivated by her beauty the chief fell in love with this stunning maiden who was Tongaiti’s daughter and welcomed all of the people off the vaka onto his island and celebrated this with a feast and our Pe’e dance.

This settlement of our Polynesian people is known today as “Tangata Enua” . With this we proudly present to you “Dances of Legends"
